josie at an adoption event!

Well folks, my scared and shy little girl was a hit at her first adoption event! Miss Josie went to the Holistic Animal Health Fair in September and she just shined. Her sweet and mellow temperment were so evident. She let everyone pet her and admire her. Isn't she lovely!?

Newest news about Josie!

Josie is officially the healthy, happy pointer lady I knew she could be. She is the princess of our house. We just adore her. Josie is trim and pretty from her restful summer and her daily 3 mile walks. She walks with her tail high in the air! The horribly unsettled Midwest summer weather has her much more at ease with thunder and lightning-now she mostly snoozes thru the stormy nites-immersion therapy we are thinking! As we enjoy Josie's sweet temperment, we know she needs a doggie companion to play with-but any nice dog will do-she is enamored with mostly all dogs she meets. Her play style is gentle, she loves to play box with our gsp, and when Josie is done, she simply sits down or walks away. Josie is a good mannered dog-so any kids need to be polite and not rough around her. Josie would be an ideal companion for someone looking for a dog that is trust-worthy in the home, a dog that would be company for their own nice canine, a walker-she loves her walks. Josie is part of our loving pack of 3 dogs. Any potential adopter will have to convince 2 adults and 2 other dogs that we should let this little lady go to them:)

group love

Josie would be great in a multi dog household. She gets along great in our 4 (!) dog home, which includes 2 very rambunctious young dogs and a grumpy standard poodle. Josie is quite content to join in the chase game around the yard, and when she has had enough, just quietly comes over to keep her humans company. I can't say enough good things about this dog. She is tolerant and peaceable and pretty and sweet. Josie is a cuddler who will let you pick her up and lay her across your lap-the only one of my dogs who will do this. The picture above is Josie sharing the bed with pointers plus one visitor, all on MY bed!

what's up with Josie?

Miss Josie has been an awesome ambassador for taking in a new foster,Sage. The puppy has got to be annoying to her-climbing on her, putting her muzzle in Josie's bowl, barking at her to play, but Josie is just a patient and sweet lady dog, who lets it roll off her back. Josie is doing so great post-hw treatment. She is a nice healthy weight and size, and is a stunner trotting around the yard "hunting" for squirrels.

josie's top ten

Josie here. I have been thru alot to get to this point, but I am thru with my hw treatment and resting up for meeting my furever family, whoever you might be! My foster mom laughs because she thinks I am sort of opinionated, like not always wanting what she cooks or not wanting to go outside just because she thinks it's time-don't worry, I know when it's time! And hey, sometimes, I have to have a few sniffs before I dig in, unlike some foster brother and sister I could mention! Being a spirited lady I do have some opinions, mostly things I love:
#10. I enjoy my water with ice cubes.
#9. It means alot to me to have someone feed me and not hurry me up, food is to be savored.
#8. Squirrels and bunnies-enough said!
#7. My lambswool mattress in my crate-heaven.
#6. Hot dogs-the perfect food.
#5. Riding in the front seat of the car.
#4. Being with my doggie buds. Cole for his confidence and Ceres for her enthusiasm.
#3. My newfound hope that life is good and someone will love me. Right now it is my foster mom, and she loves me very much.
#2. Walks! I am the best behaved of the bunch on leash.
#1. Kisses and cuddles and lovey talk-nothing is too embarrassing, right now it is honey this and baby that, and I am eating it up!

pretty pretty princess

Well, Josie is done with her hw treatment. Yay!!! Now all we have to do is pamper her and let her rest. She is making her "resting spot" my bed and we have been feeding her in bed. I know, I know, not to be encouraged, but look at her!

Fun new game with Josie

When I have a foster dog, I try to include my own dogs in a bit of training and fun so they enjoy having a new dog in the house. Very quickly I saw that Josie loves to go for walks, so when I get the leash out, her and my gsp are VERY excited. Our new game, is Ceres gsp brings Josie out of her crate on leash. Everyone loves this game, as there are treats all around and the end result-a walk!!!!

playmate wanted!

Josie's furever home definately could include another dog or 2. She adores playing with my 2. Her foster brother and sister are WAY bigger than her but she gets in there and wags her tail like crazy urging them to chase her, too. She is one of those dogs that wants to "get along." No trouble accepting her place, she is a peace-able dog. That means at mealtime she goes to her bowl, stays off her foster poodle brother's special ottoman, gives toys up to her bratty gsp foster sister the minute she grabs for it.

Josie-out and about!

Yesterday I took Josie with me to do a home visit for a potential IBR family. I was a little nervous that this was too much too soon-a whole family with 2 little kids! But she did awesome. She showed off the mellow loveable pointer personality that I tell everyone about. it was also the first time I had her around little kids, my own "kid" is as tall as me! Josie was patient and kind, no jumping or chasing-allowed the kids to learn to pet nicely. What a great girl she is.

Josie's two cents!

Josie has a couple things to add to her blog, so without further ado...
"Josie here. I am so pleased you took the time to check out my blog. I am excited to be in a foster home without the puppies or my older pup Juliet. Dogs are meant to strike out on their own a bit, so now it is my turn. I was an excellent mom to everyone, seriously, they raved about what a good mommy I was. But it tired me out! Now I am experiencing life as a dog without any responsibility or worry. Unfortunately, I am not willing to just let everything go. Some loud noises make me jump, I feel super secure in my crate, men make me a bit shaky (but I like my vet and he's a man!), and I appreciate everyone being really gentle with me. I have some awesome stuff to tell you about me! My foster mom absolutely adores me and tells me what a beautiful girl I am. I am so very sweet-no way would I hurt a soul. I do like other dogs and don't mind the cats I have here. I walk on leash so amazingly well. I love my walks and am walking proud now with my foster mom. I have an incredible amount of love and devotion that I have stored up and am ready to let loose. I am giving kisses and cuddles and love being a lap dog! Keep reading my foster mom's posts. Every day I surprise her with a new part of my personality, check back often to see what I am up to!

new dog friends

Josie seems to really like other dogs. She is really getting into playing with our std poodle and gsp dogs. Josie is the first one to "bow"-meaning "let's play, come on!"

taking it all in

It is a pleasure to host Josie at our home. She is an undemanding houseguest and eager to please us. She is crate trained, and feels very secure in there. Josie is housetrained. She loves hanging out in the backyard watching the squirrels. Outside, he tail goes a mile a minute and she trots around like she is on springs.

behind the scenes

Josie came to Illinois Birddog Rescue pregnant and sad. She wasn't alone, she had a young pup with her. Long story short, the puppies were born (and adopted!), their big sis is enjoying foster life with young energetic dogs like her, and Mom Josie is recuperating BIG TIME with us! It has been hard, nursing pups, not getting enough sleep (we have all been there!). But now she gets to relax, fatten up, chase squirrels, and just be a dog. Josie is heartworm positive and is being treated before the 4th of July. By the start of August, she will be ready to join a furever home.

Where are they now?

Frequent visitors to Illinoisbirddogrescue.org have seen Josie-a scared and sad pregnant mama dog who faced a very uncertain future. That dog has been replaced with a sweet lady dog looking for love!
